Kim Hyun Joong Awarded Best Asian Artist

MANILA, Philippines - Hallyu singer Kim Hyun Joong received the Best Asian Artist Award at the 2012 Asia Song Festival held on Aug. 4 at the EXPO 2012 Yeosu in Korea.
The popular singer and actor was one of the performers at the festival, which is now on its ninth year.
The Asia Song Festival showcased top Asian stars. Besides Kim Hyun Joong, other performers from Korea included MBLAQ, Tiger JK & Yoon Mi-rae, SISTAR, Teen Top, ZE:A, Ailee, and B1A4 and Brave Guys.
Kim Hyun Joong performed some of his hits including "Lucky Guy" and "Do You Like That."
A total of 14 artists from six countries were featured in the festival.
Japan sent Aqua Timez, which is known for its participation in the soundtrack of the popular Japanese drama, "Gokusen."
Other Asian singers who performed were Wei Chen of China, Fann Wong of Singapore, Candy Mafia of Thailand and Lin Yoga of Taiwan, who won the Rookie of the Year in the 2008 Asia Song Festival.
Kim Hyun Joong recently finished his fan meeting in Thailand. He previously visited Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan and China.
The singer touched the hearts of his fans when he donated 50 million won (P1.84 million) to Beautiful Foundation in Korea. He made the donation after learning that his fan club donated 10 million won (P369,000) to the foundation to help the elderly.
According to reports, Kim Hyun Joong made the donation to the Beautiful Foundation on Aug. 3, a day after he came back to Korea.
Of the 50 million won that the singer donated, 30 million won (P1.1 million) will be for senior citizens who live alone and the remaining 20 million (P737,000) will be for college scholarship fund.
The Asia Song Festival was co-hosted by the Korea Foundation for International Culture Exchange and Yeosu Expo Organizing Committee and sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Korea Tourism Organization, and Asiana Airlines.
